In the United States, it is estimated that one in four people between the ages of 18 and 24 have a diagnosable mental illness. This is far beyond that which it should be. The purpose of this blog is to help make a dent in this statistic and begin to eradicate the problem of mental health, particularly in college students in the United States.
My name is Tom Champlin and I am a British student studying at The King’s College in New York City. I am a Business major and soccer player, however, I also recently became a huge advocate for practicing mindfulness. This summer, in particular, I began reading books on the subject, and ever since, I have committed myself to reading at least thirty minutes a day, most of which takes place on my subway commute from Brooklyn to the Financial District. I have personally found that mindfulness can play a very large role in reducing the negative thoughts that commonly fester and develop into feelings of anxiety and depression. Please join me in my pursuit of mindfulness and create the life you’ve always wanted.
